Reasons behind Indore-Patna Train mishap

Update: 2016-11-21 14:35 GMT
At least 145 passengers were killed and around 50 others grievously injured after 14 coaches of Indore-Patna Express Train derailed in the wee hours of Sunday.

Outdated coaches and overcrowding have been seen as the primary reasons behind the train accident. Actually, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu proposed Linke Hoffman Busch (LHB) coaches in place of all Integrated Coach Factory (ICF) coaches in the 2015-16 Budget but the process isn't quick. LHB coaches are more safer and supports a speed limit of 120 kmph. There are only over 5,000 LHB Coaches against 55,000 ICH Coaches. Over-crowding is the other reason for the mishap. Though Railways say around 1,200 people were on board as per records, Another 500 people without tickets and those who are on waiting list might have got into the ill-fated train.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has called off the rescue operation by Monday noon. Tracks, Wires and Signals have been repaired on war footing.

Altogether five express/mail trains and eight passenger trains scheduled to use this route have been cancelled. As many as 29 other trains were diverted. By Monday midnight, The restoration of train traffic in the route will be done.
