The novel coronavirus spreading to around 200 countries forcing many countries to impose lockdown to see that the virus is not spread further as the positive cases around the world have surpassed 18 lakh mark.

In this tense situation, research scientists at the Reliance Industries have come up with a study that states that the Marine red algae have the potential to prevent the spread of the virus.

"Polysaccharides produced from Porphyridium sp. are sulfated polysaccharides which are promising antiviral agents against respiratory viruses from the family of coronavirus. These biocompatible compounds can be used as a coating material on the sanitary items for COVID-19 prevention," the research study maintained.

"As evident from the various analysis reports worldwide on antiviral activity of SPs from Porphyridium supported with the immunity boosting property, we can say that this microalga can be a versatile player in the treatment of many viral diseases," the research word added.

Earlier Reliance Industries owner Mukesh Ambani said that the researchers at the Reliance Industries are leaving no stone unturned to come up with a solution that might help the world in combating the fatal virus.
