When several states in the country are going through a scarcity of Remdesivir injections, nearly 60,000 vials of Remdesivir were seized by the Mumbai Police, which has kick-started a political storm in the state.
Both ruling and opposition parties have started blaming each other over the vaccine seizure.
The Cops received a piece of information on the vaccine vials and conducted raids and seized a truck that is carrying a huge stock of Remdesivir. The director Bruck Pharma was asked to come for questioning by the cops reportedly.
Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has stepped into the issue and found fault with the cops questioning the pharma director over the vaccine seizure. He said that the pharma director has all the required permissions from the DGCI to distribute the vaccine for domestic purposes.
The former CM visited the Police Police where the Pharma director was grilled by the Cops in this regard. Speaking to the media, Fadnavis alleged that the pharma director was being harassed for no reason.
We had requested Bruck Pharma to supply a stock of Remdesivir vials to Maharashtra. The pharma company said, until and unless they had the required permission, they canât do anything. I got the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)'s permission to supply the vaccine. But the Police arrested the director, Fadnavis said.
However, the Police said that the pharma director was taken to the police station only for questioning, saying that the Remdesivir injections and Remdesivir products were not supposed to export to other countries.
The Union Government has earlier imposed a ban on the export of Remdesivir and Remdesivir Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) till the situation in the countries comes to normal.
