Revanth's appointment a clear signal to oldguard

Update: 2021-06-27 12:49 GMT
Now that Revanth Reddy has been declared the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee despite their opposition, what will the senior leaders of the Congress Party do? It is clear that the Congress High Command is ready to bite the bullet and herald in a new generation of leaders. The senior crop of leaders find themselves unwanted in the Telangana Congress.

V Hanumantha Rao was one such leader who had even threatened to leave the party if Revanth is made the PCC chief. But he has been set aside.  This simply signals his walk into the sunset. It is an indirect signal that he is no longer in demand. Similarly, another senior leader Shabbir Ali of Kamareddy has been bypassed. Instead of him, cricketer-politician Azharuddin has been preferred even though he is not very active in politics.  Similarly, leaders like Jeevan Reddy, Ponnala Lakshmaiah and Jana Reddy are clearly on their way out. Jana Reddy has already announced temporary leave from active politics for some time after his defeat in Nagarjunasagar bypoll.

He is likely to push for a key role for his son Raghuveer in the Congress Party. The team of political leaders announced by the Congress High Command are all relatively young and will be able to push the Congress agenda more aggressively. So, most of the senior leaders see the writing on the wall.
