Rajiv Assassination: Review Petition Congress's Damage Control?

Update: 2022-11-21 12:00 GMT
It is known that the Supreme Court recently gave orders to release the convicts of the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. Hearing a petition filed by the convicts the Apex Court gave the orders and this raised many eyeballs. The Union government also expressed its shock over the same.

The Bharatiya Janata Party slammed the decision and even filed a review petition asking the Supreme Court to review the decision as the convicts planned and killed the then Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi with a suicide bomber. Former Vice President Venkaiah Naidu also objected to this.

The Tamil Nadu government and the Gandhi family faced criticism for not objecting to the release of the convicts. If the Gandhi Family would have objected to the release of the convicts, then it would be a different story. But that did not happen.

Now the reports say that the Congress party wants to challenge the Court orders and the party might file a review petition. Gandhi's family not objecting to the release indirectly say the family is in no mode to oppose the release.

Now the grand old party Congress suddenly filing a review petition started a new doubt on whether the party wants to damage control the criticism it faced in the issue. Though Kharge is the chief of the party he is a strong supporter of the Gandhi family and the party leadership might have asked the Gandhi family for its support.

Moreover, the BJP is objecting to the release of the convicts while the Gandhi family is not objecting to this. To counter this the party might have decided to file a review petition. Six convicts including Nalini Sriharan and RP Ravichandran were released from the case.
