Revisiting Late NTR's political journey, as he completes 38 years of becoming CM
Late Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, who enjoyed god-like status among the fans and audience has ruled the Hyderabad-based Telugu film industry for decades by portraying various kinds of characters.
After ruling Tollywood, Sr. NTR aka Anna Garu shifted his focus to politics and ventured into politics. He took on the then mighty Congress and emerged victorious in the 1983 elections and formed the government.
Anna Garu still holds the record of forming the government in nine months after floating his Telugu Desam Party. No other matinee idol-turned politician managed to pull off the same. He founded the TDP on the 29th of March in 1982.
After winning the elections, NTR sworn-in as the Chief Minister on January 9, 1983. Its been 38 years since Anna Garu made it to the Chief Minister seat.
Let us look at some of the iconic schemes introduced by him which make him set apart from other Chief Ministers, who is the first Non-Congress CM of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh.
NTR launched the enlarged scheme of supplying rice at Rs. 2 a kg to the poor, which benefited the poor in the state. That too, NTR supplied fine quality rice for the beneficiaries.
Late NT Rama Rao launched the Janatha Vastralu scheme to give clothes to the poor in the state.
However, due to internal issues within the TDP party, NTR's son-in-law Chandrababu Naidu took hold of the party with the MLAs electing him as the Chief Minister.
Months after the infamous incident, NTR passed away on the 18th of January in 1996, leaving his fans and followers in a state of shock. He still has a special place in the hearts of the Telugu people.
