Rushikonda Construction: No Total win for Govt of MP RRR!

Update: 2022-06-01 10:33 GMT
The Andhra Pradesh government is very adamant about developing the shore city as one of the capital cities of the state. To boost the infrastructure there, the government announced a high-rise resort in Rushikonda Hills. The construction is called the Rishikonda project. However, the project has been raising eyeballs since its announcement.

Earlier, a few environmentalists raised their objections to the project accusing the government of harming the environment by building resorts that are meant for commercial purposes. The construction saw another big issue in the form of a petition which was filed in the Court.

The rebel MP Raghurama Krishnam Raju who is at loggerheads with the Andhra Pradesh government moved the National Green Tribunal against the resort construction. Looking into the issue, the NGT imposed a stay on the further construction in the area. The AP govt moved the SC in this regard.

Hearing the petition, the Supreme Court gave its nod for the construction at Rushikonda. However, the Apex Court said that the work can be continued only where the construction was started already. The Supreme Court transferred the case to Andhra Pradesh High Court.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court reportedly showered questions on the Andhra Pradesh government related to the construction asking what the large area was evacuated for the resort construction.

The Rushikonda issue brought no total relief to either the Andhra Pradesh government or rebel MP RRR. The government got a slight relief with the construction getting a green signal. However, the issue of the alleged destruction of the hills went to the court's notice.
