Samajwadi Party MP Naresh Agarwal linked Hindu Gods to Alcohol during the debate on mob lynching and murders of minorities and dalits in the name of cow protection. This led to an uproar in Rajya Sabha and the house had been adjourned due to protests.
While demanding an apology, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said Naresh Agarwal has linked each of the Hindu Gods with a brand of alcohol. He further added, 'The SP MP could have been booked had if he made this comment outside Parliament. He didn't knew the gravity of what he commented. Will he speak about gods of any other religion in this manner?'.
After twin adjournments, Naresh Agarwal told he have no intention to hurt anyone's sentiments and expressed regret over his remarks.
Later, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien removed the controversial remarks from records and directed Media not to report them.
