Why Sanjay Dutt was released 8 Months early?: HC

VIP Treatment for Sanjay Dutt when he was serving jail sentence received sharp criticism. The Bollywood Actor was granted paroles and furloughs many times and it gave an impression that Jail Authorities have a soft corner for him. In fact, He was released 8 months in advance from the Yerwada Central Prison on grounds of good conduct.

The Bombay High Court asked Maharashtra Government what's the parameters it choose for assessing the good conduct of Sanjay Dutt. State Government was ordered to submit details about the decision making authority. The Judge want the Government to clarify whether or not the DIG Prisons is aware of the recommendation sent by Jail Authorities to shorten Dutt's jail term by 8 months.

Pradeep Bhalekar, a Pune-based Activist, filed PIL against the early release of Sanjay Dutt from the prison. During the hearing of this petition, Justice RM Savant and JusticeSS Jadhav questioned, 'On what criterion Sanjay Dutt has been released early?'.

Supreme Court awarded 5 years imprisonment to Sanjay Dutt in 2013 for illegal possession of Arms during Mumbai riots in the 90s.
