Sarpanch Discriminated in the name of Caste

Update: 2019-02-06 04:18 GMT
India is a secular country and often times, many people give lectures about how we treat everyone equally with utmost love, compassion, and respect. But, when it comes to the interior parts of the country, especially, the villages, the caste discrimination is still evident and relevant today which pushes us backward from not tasting the fruits of the development. We have come a long way in the process of empowerment but still, we failed to overcome the caste discrimination.

The picture attached here is from Pediripaadu village Panchayath in Madduru Mandal of Mahbubnagar district in Telangana state. The Panchayat elections were held recently and Balappa tasted the victory as the village's Sarpanch with a majority of 200 votes.

A Village Sarpanch is the head of the village and he deserves all the respect but here, Balappa is seen sitting on the floor while all the other members of the village are sitting on the bench only to prove that Balappa is from a lower caste i.e, SC.

When are we going to overcome this? is the big question for which a sustainable answer must be derivated!
