AIADMK Today officially announced that Jayalalithaa's close confidante Sasikala Natarajan would be elevated as party's General Secretary.
Actually, Jayalalithaa held AIADMK General Secretary post all these years. It feel vacant after the demise of Amma while undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospitals on December 5th, 2017.
AIADMK Spokesperson C Ponnaiyan told Chinnamma (party men address Sasikala that way) has been with Amma through good and bad times for 33 years. 'As she was instrumental in keeping the party intact, Chinnamma will be elected as General Secretary unanimously. She is the Jayalalithaa's surrogate sister,' he told.
Ponnaiyan claimed negative campaign launched by Opposition Parties on social media to defame Sasikala won't yield results. He recalled Jayalalithaa used to sent party functionaries to Sasikala to discuss issues. He told Sasikala cared for Jayalalithaa, protected her and has been like a shadow of Amma.
Countless party leaders and workers kept coming to Poes Garden residence urging to take reins of AIADMK in Jayalalithaa's absence. Even CM O Panneerselvam, Lok Sabha deputy speaker M Thambidurai, several Ministers and MLAs supported Sasikala's elevation. Finally, Chinnamma has given her consent.
