Finally, the Telugu Desam Party has spoken. It said on the floor of Parliament that defections are bad. TDP MP Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar has said that encouraging defections was downright unethical. Speaking during the debate on the motion of thanks for the presidential address, Ravindra Kumar alleged that parties were being merged using the lacunae in schedule 10 of the Constituion.

Nothing wrong in saying this and there is no question that defections should be opposed. But, coming as it is from the TDP, these comments look utterly laughable. Was it not the TDP, which encouraged defections from the YSRCP to the TDP during the 2014-19 period? Not one of the defections was ethical. The provisions of the anti-defection act were violated with impunity. Yet the TDP brazenly encouraged defections. Today, the very same TDP is talking about defections. How can something be right when you do and wrong when others do? It encouraged 23 YSRCP MLAs to defect to the TDP and made some of them ministers too. Why did the TDP not take cognizance of the ethics and the law when it encouraged defections.

However much the TDP might try, it cannot wipe off its sins. He has to answer to the people.
