For more than one year, the entire world is suffering from the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. Several experts have termed the novel Coronavirus as one of the deadliest pandemics that have hit the world.
When the world is hoping of overcoming the Covid-19 with the ongoing vaccine drive against the pandemic, experts predicted that one more deadly pandemic caused by Disease X would report every five years.
The scientists expressed their concerns about another possible pandemic when several nations in the world are finding it difficult to cope up with Coronavirus and its new lineages.
However, Disease X is not a new disease. The global health agency World Health Organisation(WHO) has named the placeholder Disease-X three years ago. It is a pathogen that could trigger a future pandemic.
The WHO added Disease X to the list of priority diseases, after Mark Woolhouse, professor of infectious disease epidemiology at the University of Edinburgh and his colleagues reached out to the body to add the disease to the list.
The studies conducted in 2017 has claimed that Disease X could be triggered by "zoonotic" diseases. Zoonotic disease refers to a disease that is transmitted to humans from animals.
Talking about the pandemic, noted Environmental writer John Vidal said, Disease X could be as contagious as measles and more deadly than the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
These predictions are surely not a piece of good news for the world which has reported more than 2.3 fatalities related to the Coronavirus. The future pandemics could claim nearly 75 million lives in the future.
Dr. Josef Settele in his research paper has held Rampant deforestation, uncontrolled expansion of agriculture, intensive farming, mining, and infrastructure development, as well as the exploitation of wild species responsible for the transmission of new pandemics.
