Senior congress leader and Former Minister Kunduru .Jana Reddy has been unanimously elected as Congress Legislature Party leader in Telangana Assembly on Tuesday.
After two-hour long opinion seeking exercise by AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh, former Union Minister Vayalar Ravi name of Mr.Jana Reddy was announced. A seven-time MLA, Mr. Reddy won from Nagarjunasagar Assembly constituency in Nalgonda district. Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, K Jana Reddy said that he will work to strengthen Congress party and make sure it emerges victorious in 2019 Polls.
He added that TPCC would take up a campaign to drive home the point that it was only the Congress that could make the dreams of Telangana people a reality.
It is understood that Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, D K Aruna, were tried for the post of Leader of Opposition. According to party sources, Komatireddy even indicated that if he does not get either the post of Leader of Opposition or TPCC president, he might have to think of his political future.
Despite playing a key role in Telangana formation, Congress managed to win just 21-odd MLA seats in the recent elections. Sources said that majority of the leaders in the meeting felt that the lack of coordination and strong leadership during the election period was one of the main reasons for the partys debacle.
Coming to the Council, the Congress with its strength is confident of bagging the chairman and vice-chairmans posts. Names of former PCC president D. Srinivas and Md. Ali Shabbir are doing the rounds. It is understood that Mr. Srinivas has expressed reluctance to hold the chairmans post.
