The sudden death of YCP leader Shoba Nagi reddy pushed the Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission to reconsider its rules and regulations. Earlier EC announced that Votes poled for Shoba were invalid and they will par with NOTA votes. But YSRCP had requested the EC officials to reconsider their decision and asked for legal advice.
Acting upon the request of YSRCP Andhra Pradesh Election Commission wrote letter to Election Commission of India by referring the case .
The Election Commission of India replied to YSRCP on Monday afternoon and they said that election will be held as per the schedule in the constituency on May 7 and the votes polled in Allagadda on Shobha Nagireddys name will be valid.
If she receives the highest number of votes, she will be declared elected. A bye election will then require to be held as per the provisions of Sections 150 and 151 A of the Representation of the People Act, said the commission in its press statement.
Shobha, who is YSRCP's candidate, died in a road accident on April 24.
