The term Moonlighting became very popular after the pandemic as IT firms found that employees are doing two jobs. The practice has shaken the IT world at once as the companies are not in favour of the practice and they dubbed the practice as unethical. A few big companies even threatened that the employees doing this will be removed.
On the flip side, the employees are saying that they are not doing anything wrong and they are taking up another job in their free time. No matter what the employees are saying, the IT companies are adamant on the stand to sack the moonlighting employees.
Compared to the other IT firms, Wipro is a few steps ahead and it already sacked hundreds of employees. It has been widely reported that over 300 employees working for Wipro last their jobs due to moonlighting. But the question is how the company found out the employees when the other companies are struggling to point out such employees.
A popular stock market investor claimed that the multiple contributions made in the PF accounts of employees did the trick and the employees lost their jobs. It is known that the PF service is digitised and we can track the contributions and the amount in the PF accounts.
The same digital version of PF reportedly caught the employees who are receiving more than one contribution and send the data to the concerned employees. IT giant Wipro, which has been opposing the moonlighting policy took serious action and sacked 300 employees.
The IT firms believe that employees doing two jobs cannot give their best in two jobs as their talent and resources will be divided and sent into two jobs which is not good. However, the employees say they are doing jobs in their free time for extra income.
The version given by the stock market investor is that the digitalization of PF and other services helped the IT firms to find out details about the employees who are in moonlighting process. If this is true ,then the IT firms should have to thank the Digital India idea of the BJP,which was introduced to give a big boost to digitalization.
