Shreyas Iyer Joins Ganguly Rohit With Debut Test Ton

26-year-old Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer made a stunning debut in the longest format of the game in the ongoing test series against New Zealand. His heroics with the bat took team India to a comfortable position. India had successfully crossed the 300-mark score with his century.

As a memorable debut in the Test format, Shreyas Iyer slammed 105 that made him enter the big league of cricketers who scored a century in the Test format in their debut match. The Green Park stadium in Kanpur became the venue for the historic feat of the talented batsman on Friday.

Overall Shreyas Iyer became the 16th Indian batsman to add a century to their name in their debut match. He played a responsible knock and showed his class with a wide range of shots. Having resumed the second day of the test with 75 unbeaten, Iyer went to the three-figure score. The way he played New Zealand's Kyle Jamieson was quite impressive.

Iyer started his test career auspiciously as he was presented the Test cap from none other than the 'Little Master' Sunil Gavaskar. After getting a good start on Thursday, Iyer took the start to a century. Without his century, India could have not surpassed the 300-mark.

With the stunning century, he entered various record books. Iyer now holds the record of slamming century in the debut test in Kanpur. Earlier, veteran Indian player Gundappa Viswanath made the record. As another record, Shreyas Iyer became the third player from India to make a century against New Zealand in the debut Test. Kripal Singh and Surinder Amarnath were the two others on the list.

With the century, Shreyas Iyer had made it to the list of players who made centuries in the longest format including former Indian player Sourav Ganguly, another former skipper Mohammed Azharuddin, dashing batsman Virender Sehwag, Hitman Rohit Sharma, and others.

RH Shodhan, Kripal Singh, Abbas Ali Baig, Hanumant Singh, Gundappa Viswanath, Surinder Amarnath, Mohammed Azharuddin, Pravin Amre, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Suresh Raina, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, are the fifteen players who earlier made centuries in their debut Test match.
