The term of six TRS MLCs, who have won from the MLAs' quote is ending today. Among them are chairperson of the legislative council Gutta Sukhender Reddy and deputy chairperson Neti Vidyasagar. Chief Whip Bodakunti Venkateshwarlu, former deputy CM Kadiyam Srihari, former minister Fariduddin and Akula Laitha are also completing their term on Thursday.
The term of Madireddy Srinivas Reddy, who is nominated under the Governor's quota will also end on June 16. By January 4 next year, another 16 MLCs will complete their term. Among them is KCR's daughter Kavitha Kalwakuntla. All these are TRS MLAs and predictably, the TRS will win back all these seats in view of the absolute majority it enjoys in the house.
The interesting feature this time would be is that if the elections to the six vacancies are not held immediately, the house will have to function under a protem speaker. This will be a first for the Telangana government.
The most important issue here would be who would replace these MLCs and how many of the existing MLCs will get renominated. There are several claimants to these vacancies. Nagarjunasagar's Koti Reddy, who stepped aside for Nomula Bharat, is being considered a hot favourite. Ditto with former speaker of the council Sirikonda Madhusudanachary. Former MLCs Karne Prabhakar, Chada Kishan Reddy and others are also strong claimants for the MLC seats. All eyes are now on KCR and it remains to be seen who he will choose.
