A Sessions Court in Mumbai framed abetment to suicide charges against Sooraj Pancholi in the case related to the death of Actress Jiah Khan in 2013. Section 306 attracts a maximum imprisonment of 10 years.

Jiah Khan who was launched in Bollywood with Ram Gopal Varma's 'Nishabdh' hanged in the bedroom of her Juhu flat on June 3rd, 2013. Following which, Her Boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi was arrested and released on bail. In its 447-page charge sheet submitted in January 2014, Mumbai Police confirmed it's a clear case of suicide. Bombay High Court transferred the probe to CBI in July 2014 based on the allegation of murder by Jiah's Mother Rabia. In December 2015, CBI ruled out murder but accused Sooraj Pancholi of abetting Jiah's suicide. The Investigation Agency mentioned in the chargesheet, 'Jiah and Sooraj began live-in relationship. Jiah used to clean his flat, iron clothes and place them in cupboard. Sooraj refused to accept when Jiah became pregnant. One hour before the suicide, There was a clash between Jiah and Sooraj'.

The suicide note of Jiah Khan and the report of the family doctor became crucial in the case. Jiah Khan alleged Sooraj has ruined her life completely and forced her to abort the foetus. Sooraj had once called the Doctor to inform, 'Half of the foetus got stuck inside Jiah' after using the pills to abort.

Rabia welcomed the charges framed by the Sessions Court against Sooraj Pancholi. Jiah's Mother, however, said she would have been more happier if Sooraj was charged with murder. She is keen to move High Court based on scientific evidence for proving her daughter was murdered.
