The Supreme Court on Tuesday set a 2 hour window (8 pm to 10 pm) for bursting fire crackers on Diwali and other festivals. A decision was taken to limit the manufacturing and sale of fireworks to only those follow the rules when it comes to maintaining permissible noise and smoke levels.

Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) will fix the permissible limit of sound and smoke. SC-bench denied permission for e-commerce giants Flipkart and Amazon to sell fire crackers with emission levels beyond the permissible limit. Station House Officers of Police Stations will be held responsible if banned firecrackers are sold in their area. Order was passed to encourage Community Cracker Bursting in Delhi-NCR and explore its feasibility in other states.

A Petition was moved in the Supreme Court seeking complete ban on the usage of firecrackers during the festivals in the best interest of environment. SC, however, ruled out complete ban but set few conditions to limit manufacturing, sale and bursting of crackers.
