Same-Sex marriages are not new in western countries. We have seen this many times. Not just the common people even celebrities got married to their lovers of the same sex. The liberal laws and freedom offered by the nations create a space for people to tie the knot.

Coming to India, it is not allowed officially. Those who go for such marriages face criticism and hurdles. However, a few couples take the daring step and go for the big step. Of late a big debate has been going on about same-sex marriages and gay marriages.

The Supreme Court took a key decision on this and served key directives to the Union Government. The Apex Court asked the Center to give its responses on the recognition of same-sex marriages.

Having transferred all the petitions that are pending before the Delhi and Kerala High Courts to itself, the Bench of Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud asked the Union Government to give its response by the 15th of next month.

People in India started talking about same-sex marriages after the top country in the nation struck down Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code. This gave a big hope to couples to openly talk about their relationship.

Section 377 bats for big punishment like imprisonment for life for having intercourse against the order of nature. The jail term might go for 10 days and might even go for life imprisonment.
