Supreme Court's Verdict On Local Body Polls Reservations

Hearing a petition filed on the reservations in local body elections the Supreme Court has ruled out that the reservations should not exceed 50%. The Constitutional bench headed by Justice Arun Mishra said that the reservations in the local body polls should not be more than 50%.

The bench went on to say that the verdict given by a five judge bench on the much talked about 2010 Krishna Murthy & Ors vs Union Of India & Anr should be observed.

TDP leaders Rammohan Naidu, Konakalla Narayana, Palla Srinivasulu moved the Supreme Court on the OBC quota in the local body polls that the reservations were not given on the grounds of the population of BC

The bench added that the total reservations for SCs, STs, and BCs should not exceed 50% and reciprocated the verdict given by the Andhra Pradesh High Court.
