Update: 2022-11-07 12:45 GMT
In a sensational development, the Supreme Court acquitted three victims of rape and murder charges. The accused are convicted of raping and murdering a teenage girl. The case goes back to 2012. The verdict became a sensation and people are talking about this now.

The convicts were slapped with the death penalty by a court back in 2014. The convicts challenged the verdict in the Supreme Court. Hearing the petition, the Apex Court canceled the death penalty. The death penalty was earlier slapped by the High Court in connection with the case.

A bench of the Supreme Court turned down the death penalty and let them go. The Police and the parents of the girl tried their best in making the top court confirm the death penalty. However, the Apex Court did not listen to that and let them go of the case.

On the other hand, the lawyers representing the convicts reportedly told the Supreme Court that the background and mental condition of the accused should be considered. One of the accused is said to be struggling with a mental issue as per the lawyers.

The case goes back to 2012 when a 19-year-old girl was brutally tortured and killed in the national capital. The three accused Ravi Kumar, Rahul and Vinod targeted her while she was returning home. She was tortured and raped and she sustained serious injuries.

After she went missing, her parents lodged a police complaint and cops found her body on a burnt stage. Further investigation proved the three accused raped and killed her. A lower court slapped them with the death penalty and the High Court confirmed it.
