Hearing a case on alleged gang-rape and death case of a Dalit girl in the Hathras district in Uttar Pradesh, the Supreme Court said the Allahabad High Court will monitor the probe into the case.

The constitutional bench led by the Chief Justice of India(CJI) SA Bobde heard a bunch of petitions over the court-monitoring into the probe and said it cannot monitor the probe.

As the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) is probing into the case, the apex court said after the investigation, in this case, is completed, then we can consider the transfer of the case, apex court said.

The Supreme Court granted a week for the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) paramilitary to take over the security of the kin of the victim and the witnesses in the case.

A bunch of petitions reached the Supreme Court claiming that the probe, in this case, has been a debacle and a fair trial cannot be carried out in Uttar Pradesh. The petitioners have also sought to make the status of the CBI report public.

The victim, in this case, a 20-year-old Dalit woman was reportedly gang-raped by four upper-caste men. She succumbed to the injuries she developed during the assault.

The police cremated the victim at late night with seeking the family's approval, reportedly, which resulted in protests across the country condemning police behavior in the case.
