Maharashtra, the severely affected state with Covid-19 has imposed restrictions on gatherings and religious processions and directed the concerned officials to see that the restrictions are not violated.
The Covid restrictions had resulted in Sikh protestors launching an attack on the Police personnel at a Gurudwara in the Nanded region of the state. The protestors broke through the barricades placed at the Gurudwara, reports claimed.
With the Police not granting permission for the religious procession, the swords carrying Sikhs attacked the cops outside the Gurudwara. The attack resulted in four policemen sustaining injuries.
Going into detail, the authorities of the Gurudwara had planned for the "Hola Mohalla" procession. However, the cops informed the authorities that, given the Covid restrictions, the procession could not be allowed.
The News Agency ANI quoted Superintendent of Police Pramod Kumar Shewale as saying, things escalated quickly when a group of youngsters tried to start the procession.
The video of Sikhs attacking the Policemen is going rounds on social media. A few cars were also damaged in the incident. The cops detained around 18 people in connection with the attack and a case has been registered.
Maharashtra added 31,643 new Covid-19 infections in the past 24 hours taking the total cases in the state to 2,745,518. Including 102 fresh casualties, total fatalities related to the deadly virus rose to 54,283, the health bulletin said.
