Taiwan had reported an unfortunate incident that left dozens of people fearing death and more than 20 injured after a train derailed in a tunnel after colliding with a truck. The incident was reported on Friday.

Going into detail, a train carrying around 350 people partially derailed in a tunnel in eastern Taiwan after hitting a truck. Media reports claimed that 37 passengers deceased while 72 passengers sustained injuries.

The fire department of Taiwan swung into action and started a rescue operation. The rescue operation is underway and the number of injuries and causalities are expected to rise.

The local Taiwan media reported that, as part of the rescue operations, the firefighters have rescued the passengers from one to four carriages. The rescued passengers are between 80-100 and efforts are underway to rescue the passengers from the remaining four carriages.

This is the worst ever train accident reported in Taiwan in over three decades. The last time, Taiwan reported such an incident was back in 2018, which resulted in 18 casualties and 175 injuries.

Media reports claimed that the truck with which the passenger collided was parked on the wrong side. A couple of carriages were damaged severely making it difficult for the firefighters to carry out the rescue operations.
