Tamil Nadu Government Today announced its plans to constitute a prestigious Award in the name of former President APJ Abdul Kalam. This award, which will be presented during Independence Day celebrations every year, would be for felicitating persons who contributed a lot for humanities, scientific growth and students welfare.
Abdul Kalam Award - 8 gram Gold Medal, Rs 5 lakh in cash and a citation. There is a norm that this award is for only those hailing from Tamil Nadu.
Jayalalitha-led AIADMK Government also declared Abdul Kalam's birthday on October 15th will be observed as Youth Renaissance Day every year.
Abdul Kalam was born in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. He passed away on July 27th while addressing the students at IIM Shillong. He was laid to rest with full state honours on Thursday.
