TDP leaders doubt Lokesh Babu's crowd-pulling capacity

Update: 2022-09-20 06:40 GMT
It is now an open  secret that TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh will undertake a 450 day padayatra and cover the length and breadth of the state. The party has begun the groundwork for the padayatra in a big way. But, there are said to be lingering doubts within the TDP about Lokesh's star power.

The whole of the TDP is rock-solid behind Chandrababu Naidu. Chandrababu is a self-made leader, who worked him way up through hard work and patience. He had shown his political acumen by ousting NTR from the party and keeping the party largely united despite NTR's exist. He had played a key role in the national parties and steered the TDP to victory through his determination and perseverance.

But the big problem is that Lokesh does not have any of these qualities. His entry into the portals of power through the legislative council and his direct appointment as the party's general secretary have raised quite a few eyebrows. His performance both in the assembly and among the public has nothing to boast of. His defeat at Mangalagiri in the 2019 elections too has lowered his standing in the party.

This being the case, will he be able to make the impression through his padayatra? Many of the  TDP leaders feel that Lokesh is not a great public speaker and is in the habit of mispronouncing words. They strongly feel that a direct padayatra might even prove counter-productive. The TDP leaders, therefore, are keeping their fingers crosses.
