TD Dynasts Bite The Dust

Update: 2019-05-28 07:10 GMT
Dynastic politics may get you party tickets, but whether one wins or loses depends on one's public outreach, personal mettle and mobilisational abilities. The TDP has given 20 MLA tickets to 20 and four Lok Sabha seats to political heirs. Interestingly, all of them lost the election and lost very badly. These losses have brought curtains on many a political family.

Leading the pack is Nara Lokesh, son of TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu. He lost from Mangalagiri. Sons of Paritala Sunitha, JC Diwakar Reddy, JC Prabhakar Reddy, Bojjala Gopala Krishna Reddy, TG Venkatesh, KE Krishnamurthy, Bhooma family, Kutuhalamma, Ashok Gajapathi Raju and several others were badly mauled. In case of Gajapathi Raju, all the family members who contested were defeated.

The worst case is that of Kidari Shravan. His father Sarveswara Rao was killed by the Maoists and this was thought to bring sympathy for him. But, he lost his security deposit from Araku. In fact, he is the only TDP candidate to lose his deposit in Andhra Pradesh in the history of the party. So, the biggest lesson to be learnt is - family connections will get you party tickets, but to win or lose depends only on the people.

Only Kinjarapu Rammohan Rao and Galla Jayadev of the TDP managed to win by the skin of their teeth.
