TDP Shocked By Panchayat Poll Results

Update: 2021-02-10 04:26 GMT
There is deafening silence in the TDP camp in Andhra Pradesh. With the first phase of the panchayat and local body polls entirely going the YSRCP way, a stunned TDP, which remained confined to less than 500 seats, is in a fault-finding mode.

The candidates backed by the YSRCP have won 82 per cent of the seats. Of the 3249 gram panchayats in the first phase, elections were held for 2723 sarpanch positions and 20157 ward members. The remaining seats had seen unanimous elections. Of the 3249 seats, the YSRCP had won 2319 seats, while the TDP was limited to just 441 seats. The others, which included the BJP, Jana Sena, Congress and the Left parties, could win just 87 seats.

The problem for the TDP is that it cannot blame Corona or the Election Commission. The massive polling percentage has shown that the party has been rejected lock stock and barrel. It cannot criticize SEC Nimmagadda Ramesh as the party has fully backed him. The TDP is now in a re-think mode. But there is little it can do now.
