Politicking over the drug menace and the attempt of the political parties to score brawny points over one another is leading to a tense situation. The situation hotted up in Kakinada on Wednesday when the TDP tried to blame the YSRCP for the drug menace. The YSRCP cadre, led by the sitting MLA clashed with the TDP leaders over the remarks.
On Wednesday, TDP former deputy CM Nimmakayala China Rajappa, former MLA Kondababu, spokesperson Pattabhi and former ZP chief Jyothula Nehru held a press conference in the district TDP office to accuse sitting MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhara Reddy of peddling drugs. The TDP leaders alleged that a boat carrying drugs went up in flames and accused the cops of not conducting a fair probe into the incident as MLA Dwarampudi was close to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
As soon as the press meet was over, sitting MLA Dwarampudi, his supporters and the owners of the boats encountered them. An argument ensued between the two parties. The boat owners demanded an apology from the TDP leaders for making baseless allegations. As the argument heated up, there were fisticuffs between the fisher-folk and the TDP leaders. The police had to enter the scene and disperse the sparring political groups.
The local DSP refuted the claims of the TDP leaders that there were drugs on the burnt boats. He said that inquiry has shown that there were no drugs on the boat. He said notices would be served on the TDP leaders for making false allegations. Meanwhile the TDP too filed a case on the YSRCP leaders claiming that they attacked the TDP workers.
