The wait over the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation(GHMC) Mayor election is finally over. Keeping an end to the delay in the formation of the GHMC council, the Telangana State Election Commission (SEC) made a big announcement.
According to the media reports, the SEC announced that the GHMC Mayor election will be held on the 11th of February. The newly-elected corporators will elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor at the meeting.
"From the date of the first corporation meeting, the five-year term of the newly-elected corporation would be started. The names of the elected ward members will be published in the Telangana State Gazette," media reports quoted the SEC as saying.
The statement by the SEC further said if the list of the elected ward members is published in the Telangana State Gazette before the 11th of January, the first meeting would be conducted before the date.
On the other hand, the Telangana State Election Commission (SEC) directed the candidates who contested the GHMC elections to submit the details of the expenditures of the poll.
The SEC also warned that if the candidates failed to submit the expenditure details for the GHMC polls before the 17th of January, they will have to face a ban from contesting the elections.
The announcement from the SEC came days after the BJP GHMC Corporators tried to barge into Pragathi Bhavan to demand the government to conduct the Mayor election soon.
