Update: 2020-01-10 06:25 GMT
Telangana CM KCR who opts to go for the overall development of the state has decided to set up six domestic airports in the state. In this regard, the state government has sought the help of the Airport Authority of India(AAI).

While the neighboring state Andhra Pradesh has five airports the Telanagan has only one airport, Shamsabhabad which is an international airport. Though the state has Begumpempet airport, it is not used for commercial purposes.

The state government wants to build airports in tier 2 cities Adilabad, Khammam, Mahbubnagar, Nizamabad, Peddpalli, and Warangal. There were airports in Nizamabad, Peddapalli and Warangal which were shut down later.

The AAI has completed the aerial survey on the places where the airports were proposed. Interestingly, the AAI is opting for Warangal, while the Union Ministry of Defence is showing interest in Adilabad.
