Telugu Player KS Bharat named in India's squad for forthcoming England series!
After the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League(IPL) was suspended in the wake of Covid's impact, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shifted its focus to the much-awaited England series and final of the World Test Championship against New Zealand.
Now media reports are abuzz that Andhra Pradesh player KS Bharat was also included in the squad that will fly to England for the UK tour. It is said that Bharat was named as a cover for Wriddhiman Saha.
To the unversed, Wriddhiman Saha had tested positive for the virus and had managed to recover from the virus and tested negative for the disease. The BCCI added Bharat to the team as the board doesn't want to take any risk with the Wicket-Keeper slot.
The Indian squad will leave for the United Kingdom on June 2 from Mumbai on a charter flight. The final of the World Test Championship will be played between India and New Zealand. Southampton will host the final between June 18-22.
After the Test Championship, India will lock horns with the English team for a five-match Test series from August 5th to September 10.
It's very rare to see players from the Telugu States play for the national cricket team, that too as a wicket-keeper. Hanuma Vihari is also a Telugu player, but he is a batsman. Let us wait and see if Bharat can make it to the final squad.
India's Squad: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (Captain), Ajinkya Rahane (vice-captain), Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), R. Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Mohd. Shami, Md. Siraj, Shardul Thakur, Umesh Yadav.
KL Rahul and Wriddhiman Saha were also named in the squad. But the chances of the duo playing for India depends highly on their fitness. If the players get fit, they might be added to the playing eleven.
