Telugu Speakers In US Increased By 86%

Telugu-speaking Individuals increased by close to 86 percent in United States in the past 8 years. Hindi remained Most Widely Spoken Indian Language in the US. Gujarat and Telugu are at 2nd and 3rd positions.

As per the American Community Survey (ACS) Data, 21.8 percent of residents in US aged over five speak language other than English as of July 1st, 2017. This include native-born, legal and illegal immigrants.

6.7 crore (20.6 percent) of 30.5 crore US Population speak a foreign language at home as against 6.5 crore in the Financial Year 2016-17. While 8.63 lakh people speak Hindi, Gujarat and Telugu-speaking people accounts to 4.34 lakh and 4.15 lakh respectively.

Since 2010, Telugu speakers has risen in US by 86 percent. Hindi and Gujarat-speakers increased just 42 percent and 22 percent respectively during the same period.

As of September 2017, 26.10 lakh of the US Population have Indian-origin. 33 percent Indians in the US speak Hindi. Close to 17 percent speak Gujarat and Telugu.
