Southeast Asian country Thailand, known for its tropical beaches is one of the major tourist destinations. Due to the pandemic impact, Thailand was closed for tourists as a precautionary measure, which resulted in the country losing around USD 50 Billion.

As a bid to see that people in the country won’t face any more issues in terms of earning, Thailand Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha said they are planning to re-open the borders.

The Prime Minister addressed the countrymen in a televised speech earlier today. We are planning to reopen the borders. The reopening will take place within 120 days from today, he said. The reopening might happen in the middle of September.

The Prime Minister said famous destinations should be reopened soon and tourists, those who have received their vaccinations will be barred from the quarantine period.

"Now, it is time for us to look further into the future at reopening the country to welcome tourists back into Thailand again. This is a crucial means to ease hardship faced by people who have not been able to make a living for a long time," the PM said in the speech.

As a big relief to Thai nationals, the Prime Minister said, vaccinated people can return as they will also be spared from observing the quarantine period.

Talking about the vaccinations, the Prime Minister said, 105.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines were secured and will be reaching the country this year. More doses will come next year.
