The 3 Ministers Behind Modi's Corona Success

Update: 2020-05-04 04:46 GMT
Now everyone agrees that Prime Minister Modi has made a name for himself all across the globe for his handling of the Corona virus. India stopped international flights much before others did and quarantined all those coming from abroad. This has significantly reduced the spread of the Corona virus. What more, Modi also implemented the lockdown across the country. This has reduced the community spread. While advanced countries with great infrastructure like the US, Spain and Italy are languishing with cases, India is better off in controlling the virus.

But, who is behind the success of the Modi strategy? Those in the know say that two ministers are mainly responsible for the Modi's successful strategy. As people with vast domain knowledge, these two ministers have advised Modi correctly and the rest is history.  One is civil aviation minister Hardeep Puri. As an IFS official with lot of exposure to the UNO, Puri realised that the WHO was wrong in its assessment of pandemic. He January itself, he alerted the PM about the Chinese tourists. It is because of the expert advice of Hardeep Puri that Modi ordered stoppage all flights from China in mid-January. This helped contain the spread of the virus. The credit for recognising Corona as a global health emergency also goes to Health Minister Harsha Vardhan.

Harsha Vardhan, a reputed doctor himself and Jitendra Singh, a diabetologist, have realised the havoc that Corona could wreak in advance and alerted the Prime Ministe.  These three ministers have largely formulated the BJP governmentcs strategy vis-a-vis Corona.
