21 Indians Jailed For 20 Years In US

A US Court sentenced as many as 21 Indians/Indian-Americans to 20 years in prison for alleged involvement in Call Centre Fraud. If included the three sentenced earlier, Total number of convicts rise up to 24. This makes it single largest arrest/sentencing of Indians in a case.

US Department of Justice maintained 32 Others have been named as conspirators but couldn't arrest them as they remain in India. All of them have been linked to five call centres based in Ahmedabad.

Sagar Thakkar, the main conspirator, was taken into custody by Mumbai Cops in April last year. These call centres have duped thousands of Americans between the period 2012 to 2016. Charges framed against the conspirators include looting millions of dollars from Americans & Legal Immigrants.

Most of 21 People who were convicted agreed deportation to India after the completion of their jail terms.
