The Proposal to link Aadhaar Card with Voter ID is being considered: Law Minister

Update: 2021-03-17 12:55 GMT
The Election Commission has been batting for the demand to link Aadhar card to voter ID as a bid to counter the bogus votes polled in the polls is long waiting. Keeping an end to long waiting, the Union Government looked at EC's demand.

Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, EC's demand is being considered by the Union Government to see that multiple votes and fake votes will not take place in the elections. The Minister said this in Lok Sabha.

Ravi Shankar Prasad's made these statements replying to a question asked by DMK Lok Sabha member Dayanidhi Maran. The Minister said the matter is being considered.

Dayanidhi Maran asked the Minister what are the steps the Union Government is taking to safeguard the data linked with Aadhaar Card and voter ID from getting misused.

EC's efforts to link Aadhar to Voter ID were haled after the Supreme Court issued orders to put breaks for the project to link UIDAI (Aadhaar) card to Voter ID to counter multiple votes.

Again back in 2019, the Election Commission of India sent a proposal to the Union Government seeking amendments in the electoral law to link Aadhar card with Voter ID. This should be applied to the old voters and new voters too.
