The Wait Is Over, SEC Announces Election Schedule For Poll-bound States

Chief Election Commissioner of India, Sunil Arora held a press conference at the Delhi office of SEC to announce the election schedule for five Indian states. Along with the Assembly polls, the SEC has announced the election schedule for the by-polls in AP and TS as well.

Sunil Arora announced the election schedule of Assembly polls for West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, Puducherry, and by-polls of Nagarjuna Sagar and Tirupati in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

According to the election schedule, the elections will be held in 294 Assembly elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu(234 constituencies), God's own country Kerala(140), Assam(126), and Puducherry(30).

The Model Code of Conduct comes into force immediately, as the election schedule was announced. The Model Code comes into force in all five poll-bound states.

The SEC has also issued guidelines for the polls. Only two people will be permitted to file the field the nomination papers. Only five people will be permitted for doorstep campaigns for the polls.

Roadshows and massive rallies during the campaigns should be held going by the Coronavirus guidelines. To see that the Covid-19 patients get a chance to cast their votes, the SEC has extended the polling times to 6 PM from 5 PM.

All the elections will see major parties fighting in the respective states. The BJP is contesting in the Assembly polls and by-elections as well. The party is aiming to spread its base to southern states.
