In politics, frequent party-hopping will do no good. Timely floor-crossing might occasionally help, but habitual defections actually bring down the importance of the leaders. In fact, film-actress-turned-part-time politician Jeevitha Rajasekhar must have realized this the hard way.
Jeevitha and Rajasekhar have been in and out of the parties. As a result, their joining of any political party has stopped making news. Unfortunately for them, they have changed too many parties. Rajasekhar was originally a Left sympathizer. In the heydays of the TDP, he joined the TDP. As soon as YSR came to power, they changed parties. Soon after the YSRCP was formed, they joined the party and were regulars at all the party protests and dharnas.
Later, they fell out with YS Jagan and joined the BJP. Their stint in the BJP was short-lived. But, Jeevitha managed to become party spokesperson. But soon, they jumped into the YSRCP as it came to power in Andhra Pradesh. On Monday, she had again re-joined the BJP. Rajasekhar was not to be seen due to health reasons.
Interestingly, the BJP did not give any importance to Jeevitha. Even as Bandi Sanjay and other leaders were wrapping party stoles around leaders from Khammam, Warangal, Nizamabad and Medak, they completely ignored Jeevitha. Finally, she had to take a stole and wrap it around herself. No one even bothered to greet her. That shows why one should not change parties too often.
