Update: 2020-05-12 12:35 GMT
In what it could be a shocker, more than 14,000 pigs died in northern state Assam with African Swine Flue. Following this, all the dead pigs were buried in a deep pit so that the virus is not spread to other animals.

As a result, the Assam state government has directed the concerned officials to take all the safety measures to see that the situation in the state gets under control.

The African Swine Fever Virus, popularly known as African swine flu is a double stranded DNA virus that belongs to the Asfarviridae family. The flu results in the hemorrhagic fever that in turn leads to high death rates in pigs.

In some cases, the flu might kill the infected pigs in just a week, and based on the health of the domestic pigs the time of death will vary.

After this news broke, the fellow northeastern states have directed the pig breeders in the respective states to not bring the pigs from the other states as the flu might entre the states also.
