Tirumala's Venkateswara Swamy temple which is known to be the richest temple in the country have gold reserves of 4.5 tonnes deposited in various banks such as State Bank of India, Indian Overseas Bank and Corporation Bank. Now, The TTD Authorities were planning to deposit another 1 ton in State Bank of India under the gold scheme. An estimate shows the total worth of the 5,500 kg gold is over Rs 1,300 crore.
TTD started depositing gold in banks only from the year 2010. Gold Deposits were made by TTD in 2010, 2011 and 2014. Out of the three, largest single deposit of gold happened in August 2014 (1,800 kg of gold). Even the interest amount too will be converted gold and this will be added to the already existing gold with the banks.
Yearly, An interest of 80 kg gold is being earned from the 4.5 tonnes of gold in the banks instead of cash. With one more tonne being added now, The interest only gets growing and Lord Balaji continues to grow more richer.
