Andhra Pradesh is witnessing protests and agitation against the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant privatisation row. The ongoing protests intensified after Nirmala Sitharaman's statement caused a stir in Andhra Pradesh.

Replying to a question on the Vizag Steel plant, Nirmala Sitharaman said the Centre will disinvent 100 percent stake in the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.

A few celebrities from Tollywood raised their voice against the Centre's move to privatise the steel plant. The celebrities took to Twitter to oppose the privatise the steel plant.

Young Tollywood hero Nara Rohit is the first celebrity from Andhra Pradesh to raise his voice against the move. In a tweet in February, he said the steel plant which was established in the 1960s is in danger in the 21st century.

Privatising the steel plant which was developed with employees' sweat is development?. Let's fight in democracy. Let us raise the slogan, Visakha steel belongs to Andhra People, his tweet in Telugu reads.

Music Director R.P Patnaik and writer Kona Venkat too joined the list of celebrities who raised their voice against this.

In his tweet, R.P Patnaik opined that the Union government should study the logistics of how the steel plant will get into profits after giving it to the private firms. The same logistics should be implemented for two years.

Kona Venkat in his tweet questioned why can't Government bring the Steel plant into profits if a private organisation can do so. He appealed to Prime Minister to save the Steel plant.

"If a Private Organisation can bring a loss making Steel Plant into Profits.. why can't our Government do the same? Save "Visakhapatnam Steel plant" @narendramodi. it's not just a factory.. it's our Pride!!," his tweet reads.

However, Tollywood fans are not happy with the stars keeping their silence on the issues in the state. Leading stars barring Pawan Kalyan no one spoke about the burning issue in the state which is irking the fans.
