If there is any dark episode in the history of Tollywood, then it has to be the infamous alleged drug racket. The racket came to light when the Telangana Excise Department nabbed a few drug peddlers and the investigation made them knock on the doors of a few big celebrities in T-town. They were grilled by the investigation agency and were left free.
The celebrities who were accused in the case got a big relief in the 2017 drugs case which is dubbed as Tollywood drug case after the Telangana Excise Department gave a clean chit to them. The development raised many doubts and a few reports said that there might be a few lapses in the case investigation.
The case which gave many sleepless nights to the celebrities got momentum with the central agency Enforcement Directorate stepping in to clear its doubt on the possible money laundering angle. The agency got a doubt on this with the key drug peddler who later turned approval alleging that the drugs were sent to other places after procuring them in Goa.
Ever since it came to the picture, the ED has been making sure that it won't miss even minute detail. On a few occasions, the ED said that the Excise department is not cooperating with them in the investigation. The central agency also raised a few doubts about the investigation.
Putting up the same doubt, the ED asked why the Excise Department in Telangana did not submit the mobile phones of the celebrities to it along with the other pieces of evidence. Seeking the same the ED knocked on the doors of the court and the court is yet to give its orders on the issue.
The Enforcement Directorate has been sending a strong message that it has no intention to leave the investigation. Looks like the central agency is in no mood to spare the celebrities. It is interesting to see what the court will say.
It has to be mentioned here that earlier celebrities like Puri Jagannadh, Charmee Kaur, Rana Daggubati, Rakul Preet Singh, Ravi Teja, Navdeep, Mumaith Khan, Tarun, and a few others appeared before the excise department.
