Lok Sabha passed the Triple Talaq bill by name 'Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2017 criminalizing the practice of granting instant divorce to Muslim Women. The new bill gonna be applicable for only instant Triple Talaq or Talaq-e-Biddat.

Opposition MPs recommended several Amendments to the Bill moved by NDA Government in Parliament. Parties such as AIADMK, AIMIM, RJD, BJD and All India Muslim League had opposed the Bill citing it's faulty.

AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi opined Triple Talaq bill does injustice to the Muslim Women. He questioned what is the need for introducing new law when existing law on domestic violence addresses the issue.

The Hyderabad MP alleged Centre failed to discriminate between civil law and criminal law while objecting penal provisions in the law. He asked why don't BJP have a single Muslim Woman MP if its really concerned about women's welfare. He termed the draft prepared by Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad to make Triple Talaq punishable as poor. 'This Law will only make Muslim Men harass Women. Government is keen to send Muslims behind the bars. Better if it focus is on creating a corpus of Rs 1,000 crore for Muslim Women,' he told.
