All eyes are now focused on Nagarjunasagar assembly constituency. With the demise of sitting TRS MLA Nomula Narsihaiah, the parties are now preparing for the inevitable bypoll and are looking for a winnable candidate.
The Ruling TRS has already begun a field survey about the various factors that could influence the electoral outcome. The party is doubly careful in view of the debacles in suffered in Dubbak and GHMC. The party is looking for a candidate who can win the seat for the TRS. It is now trying to ascertain if it would be useful to nominate someone from Nomula's family for the seat. It is also looking at the possibility of nominating other leaders. In the 2018 elections, the TRS polled 83655 votes as against the Congress Party's 75884 votes. The BJP which stood a poor fourth got just 3675 votes. The third position was held by Forward Block's Ramakrishna, who got 9819 votes. Narsimhaiah has defeated Congress Party's stalwart K Jana Reddy.
The biggest challenge for the TRS is that though it had won 9 of the 12 seats in Nalgonda district in 2018, it lost both the Lok Sabha seats in 2019 elections. Later, it had registered a thumping win in Huzurnagar bypoll.
