The Congress is finding itself in a fix yet again. After Sardar Patel was usurped by the BJP, it is now facing the danger of losing another icon â PV Narasimha Rao. 2021 is going to be PV's centenary year and the TRS has decided to organise year-long celebrations.
Now the problem is that the Congress can neither celebrate his centenary nor can it do without. After all, PV is the best PM that Congress had and had ushered in economic reforms and helped India reset itself. Moreover, he is a quintessential Telugu Bidda and hails from North Andhra. But, the only problem is that Sonia Gandhi has a visceral hatred for PV and did not even allow his body into the AICC office. Unlike all other Prime Ministers, she was not allowed to be cremated in Delhi. Knowing Sonia's antipathy to PV, the Telangana Congress cannot possibly celebrate his birth centenary. But, if it does not, then KCR and the BJP will celebrate it and own him up as Telugu bidda. This is Congress Party's biggest dilemma these days.
The problem is if it disowns the legacy of PV to please Sonia, it will end up losing sympathy and support among the people of Telangana. More than that, it would also be seen as anti-Telangana. So, it's double whammy for the Congress. Any which way, it will end up on the losing side.
