TRS Leadership Worried As Membership Drive Draws Lukewarm Response

Update: 2019-08-02 14:12 GMT
The TRS is worried. The membership campaign so ambitiously taken up by the party across Telangana is proving to be a non-starter. There seems to be no enthusiasm among the voters at large to enrol themselves as members of the party. Even the party cadre seems unenthused about the membership because of the online missed call membership mode that the party has taken up.

The party workers, who are not habituated to this kind of membership mode, are setting up stalls at various places but the voters seem disinterested in going there and enrol themselves. So, these are reduced to mere photo ops for the low level party cadre. The situation in the twin cities, which has over 1.2 crore population, is worse. Not many seem to be interested in enrolling themselves. Though a target of 60000 voters per constituency has been fixed, the membership has not even reached 20000 in many of the constituencies in Hyderabad and Rangareddy. Even the ministers are not showing interest in organising membership campaign.

A worried TRS working president KTR had held a meeting of the party leaders from the twin cities and has asked them to boost up the membership drive. He has asked them to speed up the enrolment drive. The cadre at the lower level suggest that there is a general disenchantment among the votes across the state and in the twin cities in particular due to the mounting civic problems. In several places, there is friction between the old timers and new comers and this too affected the membership drive in many places.
