Update: 2021-08-29 06:38 GMT
Is the Telangana RTC readying up a plan to remove 21680 of its employees soon? Is it planning to implement Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) and Compulsory Retirement Scheme (CRS) on its employees? Is it to pay compensation for these employees that the RTC is planning to sell six parcels of its vacant and unused lands?

The RTC is abuzz with the reports of the possible introduction of the VRS scheme in the corporation. Already new recruitments have been stopped in the RTC. Also, a list of those who are above 52 years of age has reportedly been prepared. Even the government is sending signals that those who are above 52 years of age and those who have put in more than 34 years of service would be given the VRS option. Those who do not agree for the VRS are likely to be compulsorily retired.

The government has been trying to cut down on the staff in the RTC and privatise it in a phased manner. In 2019, there were 51762 employees in the TSRTC. Now the number has come down to 49758. Already close to 45 per cent of the buses are private leased buses. More than 5100 routes are being operated by private buses. Government sources say that the RTC is preparing to sell its lands to mop up revenue to pay the compensation to those opting for VRS and CRS. The RTC is planning to sell lands in Musheerabad, Miyapur, Nirmal, Yadadri and other places. So, the famed RTC may soon be the thing of past in Telangana.
